Someone over at Pfizer wants medical journals to "open up." Unfortunately it is not about science, it's about litigation and Pfizer is trying to force Science and the New England Journal of Medicine to release confidential reviews of Celebrex and Bextra. For the sake of freedom of the press, let's hope they don't succeed.
Science in an editorial writes, "For example, the motion states: “The public has no interest in protecting the editorial process of a scientific journal …” Say what? Doesn’t the public want access to credible biomedical science? If not, what was the open-access movement all about? Do medical advocacy groups really have no use for knowledge that might help their members?"
