The FDA today announced that they have found the first patients who has developed a rare lung disease from eating butter-flavored microwave popcorn.
FDA spokesman Michael Herndon said the federal agency had received one report of someone who consumed large quantities of the butter-flavored popcorn and developed a life-threatening lung disease sometimes called "popcorn workers lung".
The Washington Post has written about workers in popcorn factories, poisoned by inhaling the flavoring, and developing this disease, which destroys the lungs. A transplant is the only cure.
