Pfizer's new ads for Viagra feature middle-aged men singing "Viva Viagra" to the tune of Viva Las Vegas, according to Bloomberg. The new ad also features middle-aged men playing guitars and driving motorcycles and vintage cars. You can see the ad for yourself here. Interestingly, the online version carries no side effect warnings.
For years, Pfizer has been criticized by both the FDA and the AIDS Healthcare Foundation for promoting Viagra as if it were a recreational drug and not a legitimate treatment for a medical condition. The foundation actually sued Pfizer, claiming its ads tacitly condoned use of Pfizer Viagra at parties and because of its resultant use by crystal meth addicts has helped spread AIDS. The suit was, predictably dismissed.
With the legal troubles out of the way, Pfizer now appears to have completely dropped the pretense that Viagra is anything other than a recreational party drug. And, if the Bloomberg report is accurate, it has backed off its August 2005 promise to do more educational, unbranded advertising for medical conditions...

Pfizer's program comes at a time when many drugmakers, including Pfizer, have been raising prices on their drugs, partly to offset declines in revenue as the global recession reduces the number of prescriptions people can afford to fill. Viagra has become the fastest selling pharmaceutical drug in history.

Good idea, in this modern world putting or posting anything online has a greater impact rather than a tell tell story, in microseconds the story is out there in the respective peoples mail box, Blogs technology was mainly developed for publishing stories news etc. and its a good step that this collage has done the same for their community to have a online presence......

Right, I too, wonder why the online version carries no side effect warnings. Well, I'm not sure really what their purpose was. :-)

After dinner it was back to the room to shower and go to bed. I took a nice cold shower (my second of the day) – which while annoying when I have to take them at home are extremely refreshing here – then sat down to start writing this thing while Quy read. The room has a TV, so I also tried watching Vietnamese television for the first time. Reception on the set isn’t the best, but we get some sort of international CNN channel (in English), a few Vietnamese channels and a Muslim channel.
