I'm off sick today with a cold. So I'm posting from home. Regular readers of BrandweekNRX will know that I occasionally give a shout-out to drugs I like. I've previously given mad props to diclofenac, for instance.
Today I'd like to mention Pfizer's Sudafed, a brand recently acquired by J&J. I've just popped two and they're working nicely to end this runny nose. And I'm talking about the good, old Sudafed, with crystal-meth-creating pseudoephedrine in it, not the new "PE" stuff.
Later in the day I'll be moving on to one of the unsung heroes of the Colds War--Novartis's Theraflu. I favor Natural Cherry Flavor Severe Cough & Cold formula, which is a powder you make into a hot drink. It features a knockout combo of acetaminophen, chlorpheniramine, dextromethorphan and more pseudoephedrine. Frankly, it gets me high, er, I mean, "marked drowsiness may occur"-- sorry!--right before bed.
I also think it's hilarious that Novartis is allowed to call this "Natural Cherry Flavor," because--predictably--there aren't any actual cherries in the formula.
A look at the Theraflu web site indicates that this brand may no longer be on the market. Novartis--say it ain't so!

Jim,
I hope you feel better and have a nice relaxing and sleepy day at home.
