File this one under: “What Drug Companies Hath Wrought.”
The FTC has launched a review of the use of celebrities to endorse products with a particular focus on whether they disclose their paymasters well enough. What this story doesn’t say is that the review is spurred in part by the use of celebrities like Lauren Bacall and Kathleen Turner to tout drug brands on TV talk shows without their mentioning that they were paid by drug companies to do so.
Here’s a list of celebrities and the drug companies on their payrolls.
And here's the FTC's original announcement of the review. The part where it mentions drug companies and undisclosed celebrity endorsements is on pages 11 and 12. Deadline for comment from industry lobbyists has been extended another 90 days.

Ed,
This looks like old news. I cannot find a recent annoucement on the FTC site (your "review" link is broken). The "announcement" you link to does not have a date, but refers to a deadline for receiving comments that has already passed (Match 19, 2007).

• The link is fixed -- apologies for that.
• The deadline was originally March 19 but has been extended another 90 days. I updated the post to reflect that.
• My name is Jim, not Ed.

Thanks. Sorry for the name mix-up. It's getting difficult to keep track of all you "journalist bloggers!"

Generic Xenical (ORLISTAT) is a slimming tablet for those who are obese and who find it hard to lose weight although on a diet. If Xenical is used with a healthy diet and exercise it has shown to help patients lose weight. http://www.caldrugs.com/pill/Xenical.html
Acomplia is used complementary to diet and exercise to treat obese or overweight patients who suffer from Type 2 diabetes and abnormal levels of fat in the blood. Sanofi argues that Acomplia can also prevent the risk of cardiovascular disease. http://www.caldrugs.com/pill/Acomplia.html

I cannot conceive of a God who rewards and punishes his creatures, or has a will of the type of which we are conscious in ourselves. An individual who should survive his physical death is also beyond my comprehension, nor do i wish it otherwise; such notions are for the fears or absurd egoism of feeble souls.
