Analysts Friedman Billings Ramsey have downgraded Sepracor's shares to 'underperform' because they believe that when Ambien goes generic it will take a chunk out of Lunesta's hide. FBR took a survey of just 24 doctors and asked them what they will do with patients once generic Ambien hits: "Two-thirds of doctors we polled indicated they would consider switching patients already on Lunesta to a generic version of Ambien. We are lowering our Lunesta sales estimates for 2007 and later years. The Street estimate for 2007 Lunesta sales is still near the company's $685M guidance, which, we believe, is looking increasingly unrealistic, particularly considering the flat Lunesta prescription growth thus far in 1Q07."
It's the latest in a long series of spankings that Sepracor has taken from its observers.
